Returning to our roots and all the news from Watershed
Wednesday Jan 15, 2020
Wednesday Jan 15, 2020
We decided to record this episode at the special place where we met 49 years ago this summer. So, without asking permission, the duo assembled their gear on the tower that has stood as a symbol of Camp Mondamin for going on 99 years. Some of the episode is about camp but in their usual rambling style…Gary and Mark have a lot else on their minds. Gary has a new idea for an item to patent to help old folks and Mark has a scheme involving raising money for orphans (namely Gary and Mark). Luckily the podcast now has official legal counsel and they might just need it. And listeners should note that we were within a five-minute canoe ride to Rabbit Island, home of Rabbit Island Resort – one of our major sponsors.
Find out more about Camp Mondamin at: www.mondamin.com.
Here's Gary and Mark at Camp Mondamin with the tower. That's Lake Summit and out there a bit is Rabbit Island Resort.

New Year, New Season, and then there's a certain magazine
Wednesday Jan 01, 2020
Wednesday Jan 01, 2020
Gary and Mark welcome 2020 with an easy-going chat about a few topics. They do “think” about some New Year’s resolutions, but that doesn’t seem to be a top priority. Then Gary brings up a certain magazine and an ad inside that’s sure to turn heads and get tongues wagging down on the corner with the old geezers (and young ones) in Watershed. For a few minutes we were afraid our “G” rating might be in jeopardy, but Gary has a way of turning things around.
Welcome to season two of “The Gary and Mark Show” and here’s to lots of fun times ahead. Cheers!

Gary and Mark celebrate the end of season one at Southern Appalachian Brewery in Hendersonville. As always, they had a bunch of things on their minds. But before they got too far in their thoughts a visitor walked over to see what the duo was up to. And when that happens, we see the opportunity for a guest. Of course, we’re taking a gamble, but this was a lucky day as Captain Jim Lombardo was a willing participant in our show and fun to chat with. He runs a sportfishing charter boat company out of South Florida and we learned a bit about that.
And then we made our first phone call on our recording gear to check in with an old friend up in Maryland. Chris is newly moved into an assisted living facility and we wanted to see how that’s going. We mentioned that he might want to move down to Watershed and try out the brand-new assisted living facility that’s opening soon down our way. The new place in Watershed is called “Trails End” and we’re sure we’ll do some future shows from there once people start moving in.
Thanks for a great first season. We’ll look forward to being back with you the first of the year.

Exciting News from Watershed – bowl games, a whistleblower and a possible admission scandal, and our new movie studio in conjunction with Pam Stone (maybe).
Gary and Mark are back in top form after a round of episodes with “real” guests. In this episode we bring you up to date on several happenings in our home of Watershed, North Carolina.
We lament on our Gary & Mark Podcasting University football team not yet getting a bowl bid. We talk about a possible whistleblower who’s trying to get us embroiled in an admissions scandal. And we discuss the possibility of starting our own movie studio and our hopes of negotiating a deal with Pam Stone to make a movie of her book, Girls Like Her.
Sit back and enjoy the latest happenings Gary and Mark have stirred up.

Pam Stone - TV star, stand-up comedian, and author puts up with Gary & Mark
Thursday Nov 21, 2019
Thursday Nov 21, 2019
Pam Stone was our most recent guest and she had us in stitches with some of her life stories. We’re sure you’ll be laughing along with us.
If you don’t know Pam, you’re missing out. She is probably best known for playing Coach Judy Watkins on the ABC sitcom “Coach” for seven seasons with Craig T. Nelson. But that’s just the start. She’s an award-winning stand-up comedian (even opened for Jay Leno for weeks at a time), a book author, syndicated newspaper columnist, and a radio personality.
In this episode we talk about it all.

A Chat with Perry Jones, Development Officer with the Muddy Sneakers Program
Monday Nov 11, 2019
Monday Nov 11, 2019
We had a wonderful chat with Perry Hodgkins Jones who works with the amazing Muddy Sneakers program. Muddy Sneakers, based in Brevard (NC), partners with schools to give fifth graders an opportunity to leave the indoor classroom and take it outdoors. It’s an exciting program to hear about and even more exciting to be a part of. Boys and girls look forward to the days their Muddy Sneakers leaders meet them in the great outdoors. Students usually get out with the Muddy Sneakers gang at least six times during the year.
Muddy Sneakers also runs a summer day camp that offers experiences to kids from ages 4 to 14.
Check out more about all the Muddy Sneakers program at: www.muddysneakers.org.

Gary and Mark warm up with a few shout outs, a suggested name for the Gary & Mark Podcasting University team mascot, and then a few thoughts for alternative names for adult diapers. And all of that is in the first 4 ½ minutes.
The rest of the episode is devoted to our visit with Linda Cluxton who had just completed a nearly 1,000-mile ride including both on- and off-road motorcycling. She’s also raced, ridden internationally, modeled cycling gear, and has completed many long-distance rides in some amazing places. Linda is also a writer, photographer, and a grandmother of seven!

It's County Fair Season in Watershed, North Carolina
Monday Oct 21, 2019
Monday Oct 21, 2019
It’s fall and that means it’s county fair season around these parts. Gary & Mark talk about the small fair that comes to Watershed, NC and then think back to a memorable time at a couple of county fairs during their youth. Put it this way, there is something they mention that they haven’t forgotten decades later.
Next up is a discussion about the proposed tattoo parlor wanting to open up on Main Street. We will be getting the mayor of Watershed on the show with us soon to discuss this issue. In the meantime, you can let us know what you think.
And of course, we have some shout outs to some of our listeners who have commented about The Gary & Mark Show. We’d love to mention you too. Just leave a comment.

The Bladder-Bowel Control Training Institute - good news for all!
Friday Oct 11, 2019
Friday Oct 11, 2019
Even though the Gary & Mark Podcasting University is just a few months old, we’re already branching out and experimenting with divisions, departments, and special services. We still have big plans for our athletic department. But until AD Don Silleman can round us up some colleges to play, we’re not sitting around twiddling our thumbs.
In this episode we talk about a “fantasy campus” kind of like those fantasy sports sites that people spend millions on. Maybe we can get a cut of the action. But then Gary presents this whole new idea – the Bladder-Bowel Control Training Institute (BBCTI). This new division of our university is going to be turning heads in the academic world. Seniors can rejoice!
You’re hearing it first here, folks!

Clemson's Dabo Swinney should be scared! We now have athletics.

Clemson’s Dabo Swinney should be scared! The Gary & Mark Podcasting University now has an athletic program.
We have caved to pressure. We thought we could get by with just focusing on academics at our institution of higher learning. But we misread the demands of our alumni and current student body. They want an athletic program.
Of course we can’t please everybody but decided that perhaps we should enter the world of big-time college sports. So meet Don Silleman, our newly appointed Director of Athletics (AD for short)s. We offered a pretty impressive compensation package to lure Don to our campus. He couldn’t resist and took early retirement from his old job in Greenville to come on board.
You’ll meet Don in this episode and hear some of his early plans for our athletic program. And of course one of those will be to start a football program right out of the gate. And we are not talking about playing any rinky-dink junior college or even youth league. Don wants us to aim high so we plan to start by offering to play Clemson in Death Valley as soon as they have a slot open. Gary and I weren’t so sure about this until Don mentioned we could make some good money for the school win or lose. Of course we don’t plan to lose…
There are lots of good things ahead for the Gary & Mark Podcasting University.
